Green Room Crazy Eights is the classic card game of Crazy Eights, for four, with SCATTER's VESPER, NARAE and TILT in the other three seats, backstage after a show. It's free, it plays right here on a phone or a computer, and it keeps your game if you leave halfway. No account, nothing to download.

How to play Crazy Eights

Everyone gets five cards, and one card is turned up to start the pile. On your turn, play a card that matches the top card's suit or its number. Every 8 is wild: play one at any time and name the suit that has to come next. If nothing in your hand will go, draw a card from the stock; if it fits you can play it straight away, or keep it. The first player to play every card wins the hand and scores the cards still in the others' hands: 50 for an 8, 10 for a king, queen or jack, 1 for an ace, and the number for the rest. The game ends when someone reaches 100 (or 50 in a quick game), and the highest score wins.

Who you're playing

VESPER plays it careful: saves the 8s, notices who had to draw on which suit, and turns the suit away from anyone about to go out. NARAE plays it steady and sticks to the longest suit. TILT plays it fast: an 8 goes down the moment it turns things TILT's way.

Tips

Keep an 8 for when you're stuck, play your high cards early so a lost hand costs less, and watch who draws: a player who drew on hearts probably has none, so hearts is the suit to name when that player is nearly out.
